In this year of the Census, this course will examine aspects of population studies: the size, distribution, and composition
of populations. We will examine their fertility, mortality, and migration patterns and include attention to the socioeconomic,
racial, health, and other characteristics of various populations. Special attention will be given to the situation in
less developed nations (such as China) as well as to that in the United States. While most of the focus will be on the current situation, attention will also be given to historic patterns.
