This presentation will highlight the University of Kentucky's School of Human Environmental Sciences 2019 Study Tour to Ikaria, Greece where participants experienced how well-being, health and longevity stems from behavior and choices made along the life course. The island of Ikaria, Greece was selected as the destination for this study tour because it is one of five international Blue Zones. A blue zone is an "aging hot spot". In Ikaria, people reach age 100 at rates up to 10 times greater than in the United States. The longevity of Ikarians is due in large part to their lifestyle, which centers around having a reason to live, a focus on family, meaningful social connections, healthy diets, hard work, physical activity and spirituality.
