Richard Todd Duncan is among the hundreds of African American entertainment artists from Kentucky. Ducan was from Danville, he played Porgy in Gershwin's 1935 Porgy and Bess, breaking the color barrier in American opera. Charlotte "Lottie" Gee grew up in Newport, and is remembered for her rendition of "I'm just wild about Harry" in Blake and Sissle's 1921 Shuffle Along. This was the first Broadway musical featuring syncopated jazz. There are many more names and much more history. Come join us for more memories of African American entertainers from Kentucky.
