In 1931, Universal Pictures—a movie studio with a bargain
basement reputation—released Dracula and Frankenstein. A
string of horror movie classics followed. As we watch ten of
these movies, we will learn about the backstories of the film
production along with Universal studio’s internal politics and
changing fortunes. This will be an opportunity to appreciate
how movies were made during Hollywood’s Golden Age and
the many advancements to the filmmaking art that were
achieved at Universal City. Even if you have watched these
famous movies before (perhaps more than once!), you will
learn a lot more about them in this course.
