Data shows that antisemitism is on the rise all over the world,
including here in the United States. This course will examine
the development of antisemitism from pagan and ancient
times to the twenty-first century. Attention will be given to the
role of the Church, secular developments like nationalism and
Nazism, philosophic movements including the Enlightenment,
and current trends. We will try to identify some of the
underlying factors that encourage antisemitic trends to seek
an answer to the question, “Why the Jews?”
