Keeping Korean Traditional Performing Arts Alive in the 21st Century

In this presentation, Donna Kwon will introduce several forms of Korean performing arts that are still practiced today, such as Korean p'ungmul drumming, daech'wita (military band music), and p'ansori (vocal storytelling). The she will draw from her research and demonstrate how these traditions are being adapted and kept alive for current audiences in a variety of genres such as K-pop as well as various hybrid genres that have developed such as post-gugak (post-Korean traditional music) and ch'angjak yonhui (creative Korean performing arts).
